Get Out

About

One sticker. 124 places. Let's get you out there.

What this is

Get Out & Wisconsin is a guide to everything a Wisconsin State Park System pass opens: all 124 state parks, forests, trails, recreation areas and wild rivers, sorted by what you want to do and when. Want to camp in December or hike in October? Pick an activity and a month and we'll show you where.

Independent, not official

This is an independent project. It isn't affiliated with or endorsed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. For official information, visit dnr.wisconsin.gov.

Check before you go

Hours, closures and fees change. Check the property's DNR page or call the DNR at 1-888-936-7463 (7 a.m. to 10 p.m.) before you head out. Camping reservations: wisconsin.goingtocamp.com or 1-888-947-2757.

Where the information comes from

  • Park details come from each property's public pages on dnr.wisconsin.gov and refresh automatically every week. Last refreshed 2026-10-24.
  • Property boundaries and state trail lines come from the DNR's public map data.
  • Closures and notices load live from the DNR's public closures feed whenever you open a park.
  • Pass prices are the rates in effect since Aug. 19, 2025. We check them every week and update this site if they change.
  • Activities and seasons are matched from DNR descriptions and checked by hand, and season months follow general Wisconsin patterns. If something looks off, trust the DNR.
  • Maps use USGS The National Map, © OpenStreetMap contributors and AWS Terrain Tiles, drawn with MapLibre.

How this site is made

  • Facts are automated. Hours, fees, activities, accessibility, closures and maps come from the DNR's public pages and data, and scripts check them every week. Scripts gather facts. They don't write the guides.
  • Writing is by a person. Everything written for this site, from the lists to the month tips, is written or reviewed and approved by a person. We don't publish AI-generated park guides.
  • The DNR's words are credited. Park descriptions and activity text still come from each property's DNR pages, and every park page says so and links back. We're replacing those descriptions with our own, one park at a time.
  • Ask Badge is the one AI feature, and it only answers from this site's own pages (more below).

Park photos

Every photo on a park page is hotlinked straight from that property's own page on dnr.wisconsin.gov — we don't download, host or alter a copy. The image stays the Wisconsin DNR's; each park page credits it and links through to the official page it came from, and the picture disappears on its own if the DNR ever takes it down or moves it.

Weather and fire conditions

Current weather and air quality on each park page come from OpenWeatherMap, fetched through a small proxy we run so our API key stays private; it doesn't see or store anything about you. Fire danger and burning restrictions come straight from the Wisconsin DNR's own public WisBURN feed, updated every 5 minutes. These are a quick reference — always check the DNR's WisBURN site before burning anything.

Ask Badge

The Ask Badge button opens a small chat that answers questions from this site's own pages: parks, seasons, the pass and the month guides. It runs on Cloudflare Workers AI, links to the pages it used, and says so when something isn't covered here. It doesn't have live closures, weather or fire danger, so check the park page's notices before you go. We don't store your questions.

Meet the team

Say hi to the team.

Who made this

Get Out & Wisconsin is made by Ryan Dahlberg in Superior, Wisconsin. Ryan built it as a better way to find your way around Wisconsin's state parks and trails. The DNR publishes everything a visitor needs, but it's spread across 124 property pages. This site puts it in one place, sorted by what you want to do and when you want to go.

It's a personal, non-commercial project, built and kept up by one person. More of Ryan's work is at ry-ops.dev.

Corrections

If something on this site is wrong or out of date, email Ryan at ryan at getoutwi dot com and it'll be fixed. For hours, fees and closures, the DNR is always the final word.
